Well over a year ago I read an article online about a folk music festival that took place in the outer Hebredies. What & where are the outer Hebredies, you ask? Why there are the islands off the northwest edge of Scotland, of course! I sent Bill the article, and we both decided, let's go! Fast forward a year later, and off we went!
The first leg of the tour included an eight hour drive northwest of Scotland to the wee town of Ullapool (Uh-lah-pool). The town is mostly a tourist hub for the large ferry that takes people to and from the northernmost island of the outer Hebredies, the Isle of Lewis.

The town square (yes, that's the whole of the town square in the picture below) contained a clock tower. Neither Bill nor I thought the clock tower was that magnificent, but we did notice something that we thought we would capture.

As you can see in the photo above, the lamp lights are on. That's because it's 10:00PM, but the sky is still fairly bright. So bright, in fact, that you can't tell much difference at 10:10 the next morning! The only difference being the lamp lights aren't lit.

After our eight hour drive, we stayed in Ullapool two nights so that we could explore mainland Northern Scotland. Alas, our one full day in Ullapool was quite rainy.

We walked around the town and drove along the coast. It was a beautiful day, even though it was grey and damp for the majority of it. We had one high-flying adventure, which I'll write about in our next post. Stay tuned!
